FAQ: Vending Machine Credit Card Transactions
Q: I have a “pending” charge on my bank statement- why?
A: The “pending” charge is because you or a family member used a DEBIT or CREDIT card for a recent transaction. Banks use an “estimated” amount as a “hold” or Pending against your account balance until the ACTUAL sale amount is posted to your account.
Q: When will the “pending” or “hold” amount disappear?
A: It can take your bank up to 24 – 72 hrs to clear the “pending” or “hold” amount.
Q: I have an overcharge amount on my bank account- why?
A: The “overcharge” amount is also called a “pending” or a “hold” amount.
Pending or Hold amounts appear on your statement because you or a family member used a DEBIT or CREDIT card in a recent transaction.
For example, Vending machines or Hotels or Car Rentals use an “estimated amount” or a “Pending Amount” because the total or final transaction amount is not known at the time of the CARD authorization.

A: You or a family member most likely made a recent purchase at an unattended vending machine that typically sells drinks or snacks.
Q: I used a Cash App or Venmo Card to make a purchase but I see a 5.00 authorization?
Merchants like hotels and gas stations and vending machines may put a temporary hold on Cash Card payments that show up in your transaction activity. Funds will be automatically returned to your Cash App when the hold is released. This usually happens within 10 business days. Source: https://cash.app/help/us/en-us/6483-card-payments

due to new Visa and Mastercard Rules regarding preauthorized transactions.
